Built in 1937, Ocean House began as a private, two-story beach cottage located on a forested bluff overlooking Agate Beach in northern Newport, Oregon.
Compelled to share the spectacular views with others, the last family to inhabit the home converted it to a bed and breakfast in 1986. It became known as Ocean House, honoring the first hotel in Newport, which is now home to the U.S. Coast Guard.
More bedroom suites were added as demand grew for this one-of-a-kind setting, with the final addition completed in 2000. Over the years, the once quaint bed and breakfast has transformed into a sophisticated boutique inn, with modern renovations that only enhance the location’s everlasting coastal charm.
Although ownership has changed, the tradition of beauty, comfort, and charm first found in the original beach cottage lives on for travelers near and far to enjoy.

Our living room boasts a large and inviting fireplace, plush seating, and incredible views of the ocean. Our window seat is ideal for reading or playing cards. A secondary lounge lends itself to quiet conversation, reading, chess, or working on the house jigsaw puzzle.
The dining room is where everyone gathers for our fresh, scratch-made breakfast, coming together as strangers and leaving as friends. It is also home to the complimentary beverage bar, which is available throughout the day with hot beverages such as coffee, teas, cocoas, and spiced cider. There is a small refrigerator stocked with soft drinks and plenty of room to store your snacks. A microwave is also available as well as an ice maker. Treat yourself to popcorn or our fabulous homemade cookies. Complimentary wine from the Oregon and Washington regions is also available each evening.
We encourage our guests to disconnect from the world. We do not have commercial television available at the inn. We do offer television sets with DVD players for movies upon request. Books, magazines, games, puzzles, and free Wi-Fi are available for your enjoyment.
Outdoor relaxation is a big part of the coastal experience. Our tranquil garden has something blooming almost year-round. Pathways allow for leisurely walks through the luxurious grounds to decks with seating overlooking the ocean. A private path through the shore pines leads you to miles of sandy beach and tide pools. A wood-burning fire on our largest deck on the edge of the bluff enhances any evening. Wait for the “green flash” at sunset for good luck and fair sailing!
