2020 Newport Seafood & Wine Festival on the Oregon CoastBy now, you probably realize that there’s no bad time to be on the beautiful Oregon Coast at our beachfront Bed and Breakfast.  But, it might just be a little more exciting this February as the Newport Seafood & Wine Festival rolls around again! The Newport Seafood & Wine Festival is one of the premier food events on the Oregon Coast each year and is truly one of the defining events of winter down here in Newport.

If you’re planning to attend the festival this year, we hope you’ll be staying with us at our romantic Bed and Breakfast, located on Agate Beach just a few minutes north of downtown Newport. Our Inn offers spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean, plenty of common areas for you to enjoy, delicious breakfasts, and so much more.  Come experience the difference, and book your room at our Oregon Coast Bed and Breakfast today.

Savor the Newport Seafood & Wine Festival

The Newport Seafood & Wine Festival was first established in 1977 and was the original food festival on the Oregon Coast. This spectacular event, 43 years in the making, will be showcasing over 170 vendors from the area, which includes wines from local and regional wineries, local seafood companies, and regional artisans. 2020’s event will take place from February 20 – 23, and will take place under a tent on South Beach in Newport, next door to the Rogue Brewery.

For most visitors to the Newport Seafood & Wine Festival, it’s the opportunity to taste a variety of high-quality Northwest wines and take home a few bottles of their favorites. The event is about so much more than wine tasting, though. It also features one of the biggest wine competitions in the Northwest. Each year, one of the wines from the competition is given the prestigious Joseph H. Swafford Best in Show Award. The wines have already been judged for 2020, and the winner of that coveted award was Spangler Vineyard’s 2015 Petite Verdot from Oregon.

Newport’s Port is an important source of fresh, local seafood, and it’s proudly displayed and paired with wines at the festival every year. You’ll find a variety of fresh seafood, including crab, bay shrimp, oysters, salmon, albacore, and other local delicacies.

What to Expect at the Festival

There are a few important things to know if you plan to attend this year’s Newport Seafood & Wine Festival. Saturday is expected to be a heavily trafficked day, and to help avoid long lines, Festival organizers are requiring that tickets for Saturday to be purchased in advance online. You can do so until 1 pm on the Saturday of the festival.

If you want to avoid the hassle of the big crowds, consider attending the event on Thursday evening when it opens. Thursday is often considered “locals night” at the festival and is the most laid-back time to attend. Other times to consider are later on Saturday afternoon, after 2 pm, and even on Sunday.

Parking for this event is a little bit limited and is $5.  If you want to avoid the hassle, consider taking the free shuttle that is being offered. Take this option, and you don’t have to worry about drinking and driving, too! One of the shuttle stops is right here at the Oceanhouse Inn Bed and Breakfast! See the shuttle map in the guide to the festival (page 19).

And, finally, don’t forget to enjoy the rest of Newport Oregon while you’re here!  The entire town gets into the festive spirit with the Newport Seafood & Wine Festival comes to town. You’ll find special menus and live entertainment in many local restaurants, deals on locally purchased wine, and other fun events to enjoy.
